What’s Going On Is Not Concerned With Brevity

Will Seth Davis ever make a coherent point? Rumors persist each year, but I’ll believe it when I see it

Noted idiot and Duke homer Seth Davis wrote this piece with a ridiculously long title for SI. If you don’t want to read it, that’s understandable, I wish I hadn’t. I’m only linking to the article because while IANAJTTP, I still need to cite my sources. The jist of the piece of hot garbage is that Seth doesn’t think players will ever boycott a championship game because they won’t want to give up the opportunity. He closed with this:

Exploited? Try blessed. Here’s hoping they spend this weekend counting their blessings while ignoring the members of the chattering class who are trying convince them to walk away.

This is an insanely stupid argument. First of all, having gone to a college with a major basketball program and been around a lot of the players and seen what their lives are like at colleges like that, I can tell you that, despite being listed first in their title, “student” is a distant second to “athlete,” so let’s forget about the “But it’s a free education” argument right now. Yes, college athletes are treated pretty well and yes, a lot of them are probably okay with the status quo and just happy to be there and have the opportunity to play at that level, because they know that that will, in all likelihood, be the highest level at which they play. But that still doesn’t make it okay to not pay your employees, NCAA.

More idiots from SI

You may remember Allan Muir as one of the numbskulls who trashed the Blackhawks for their handling of the Patrick Kane situation. Well, he’s back at it, this time for their handling of the Garret Ross situation. Ross, a Hawks prospect, was charged under Illinois’ “revenge porn” law for sharing sexual images of a teammate’s ex-girlfriend without her consent. Ross’ guilt in the matter was never really in doubt, but the charges were dropped, because he was in Michigan when he shared the images, so the state of Illinois did not have jurisdiction to charge him and Michigan doesn’t have such a law in the first place.

Allowing Ross to rejoin the IceHogs is their prerogative, of course. But it comes off as another tone-deaf decision by an organization that’s made too many of those this season.

…it doesn’t mean he didn’t do what he’s been accused of. And since that’s an incredibly damaging act, one that can have a lifelong impact on a victim, it seems like this is being dismissed far too easily.

Way to not apply any critical thinking skills whatsoever to this, Allan. Intentional or not, you’re a moron all the same. Look, there are no winners in this situation. Am I thrilled about Ross being back with the IceHogs? No. I’m not disputing that Ross got off on a technicality. He absolutely did. But he got off. Technically, no law was broken. And, Allan, there’s something called the players union. And I don’t think they would take too kindly to the Hawks suspending a guy for not breaking the law.

Well, that explains a lot

James Franklin tweeted this and then deleted this after realizing it was stupid.

The one time James Franklin should have called a timeout to think about something…

The devil’s going down to Georgia

Remember when Ohio’s AD said that Jim Harbaugh’s satellite camps would be something he would to if he were trying to jumpstart his program, so Harbaugh replied with this:

Quite possibly the greatest tweet ever. Good times. Well, Smith ended up apologizing for his remarks. Harbaugh didn’t. He said Ohio fired a shot, so he fired one back. Attaboy, Jim. Harbaugh +2. Anyway, guess who’s getting in on the satellite camp craze now. Yup, Urban Meyer. I can only assume Harbaugh’s next tweet will be something along the lines of “Think before you speak.”
