UA-59049186-1 Blackhawks 4, Red Wings 3 (OT) - Good if it Goes

Blackhawks 4, Red Wings 3 (OT)

Box score (Yahoo)

The Blackhawks got off to a great start (not a typo) and got the first two goals of the game. First, Brian Campbell scored on a power play just past halfway into the period. Then, 26 seconds after Soupy’s goal, Richard Panik doubled the Chicago lead. The second period, though, was controlled by the Red Wings. Andreas Athanasiou cut the Hawks’ lead to one early on in the period. A little over nine minutes in, Tomas Tatar tied the game. The Hawks got the lead back late in the period on Tanner Kero‘s first goal of the season and second in his NHL career, but that lead would be short-lived, as Luke Glendening scored with just nineteen seconds left to re-tie the game. The game would remain tied throughout the third, though both teams would have their chances. The most notable event in the third was a brainless boarding penalty by Justin Abdelkader with 16 seconds left in the period. Though the Hawks didn’t cash in on it in the waning seconds of regulation, they were able to do so in overtime. It was Duncan Keith with the GWG.

A few things

  • Corey Crawford made some big saves, though he hasn’t looked like his usual self since returning from his appendectomy. In seven games since coming back, he’s held opponents under three goals only three times. I’d really like to see more of Scott Darling, who has looked quite good lately.
  • Tanner Kero has been playing some impressive hockey since coming up from Rockford. The Western Michigan product has shown he can be counted on to make responsible plays and has been active on offense.

My picks for 3 stars

★★★ Luke Glendening, C, DET (1 G)

★★ Richard Panik, W, CHI (1 G, 1 A)

★ Duncan Keith, D, CHI (1 G (GWG), 1 A)
