Blackhawks 6, Blues 4
- Updated: December 18, 2016

The Blackhawks got off to an inauspicious start when Scott Darling gave up a really bad goal to Patrik Berglund 41 seconds into the game. The Blues held the league for much of the period, before Dennis Rasmussen tied the game with 26 seconds to play in the first. Kyle Brodziak gave the Blues the lead back early in the second on a goal that was redirected by a broken stick discarded on the ice. I don’t know what the odds of that happening are, but they can’t be awfully high. A bit later in the period, Trevor van Riemsdyk found Patrick Kane wide open in the middle of the ice and Kaner went down and beat Jake Allen to tie the game at 2. A little over fourteen-and-a-half minutes into the second, Berglund scored his second to give the Blues the lead once again. Just under nineteen minutes in, Brian Campbell finished off a game of tic-tac-toe to re-tie the game. The tie would be short-lived, as only 49 seconds after Soupy’s goal, Alex Pietrangelo scored to give the Blues another lead. A minute into the third, Niklas Hjalmarsson scored to tie the game yet again. This time, though, it would be the Hawks that would break the tie when Vinnie Hinostroza kicked a puck to his stick and backhanded it into a wide-open net just over fifteen-and-a-half minutes into the period. Artemi Panarin would add a tap-in empty netter.
A few things
- Scott Darling has played well enough to merit more starts even when Corey Crawford returns and to make them at least think about trading Crawford in the event of another cap crunch this summer, but this game was not a good one for him. That said, he’s played a lot of hockey these last couple weeks (Q even said he might be fatigued) and was a bit unlucky the last couple games.
- Tyler Motte was a healthy scratch again because more reasons. He figures to be back in the lineup against the Sharks, but the way he’s being used is starting to get a little frustrating.
- Artem Anisimov left the game with an upper-body injury. He’s day-to-day.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Artemi Panarin, LW, CHI (1 G, 2 A)
★★ Patrik Berglund, C, STL (2 A)
★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G, 1 A)
