UA-59049186-1 Mayweather, Pacquiao, and the State of Boxing - Good if it Goes

Mayweather, Pacquiao, and the State of Boxing

Boxing is not dead.

Not even close.

No, the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight was not a slugfest. You’re an idiot if you were expecting it to be.

We have to go through this every time Mayweather fights, because people have still not realized:

  1. The point of boxing is to win the fight.
  2. Floyd employs a defensive strategy to accomplish 1.

One particulary stupid individual called Floyd out for not entertaining the fans. I guarantee you if Floyd had stood and thrown with Pacquiao that he would have lost and this same numbskull would have called Floyd out for standing there and throwing with Manny.

By the way, there was no good option for Pacquiao here in regards to his shoulder, but his injury is not why he lost the fight.

To the people that think boxing is dead: Did you watch the Canelo Alvarez-James Kirkland fight this past Saturday? If not, why not? It looked to be a slugfest and ended up being one. Do yourself a favor and watch the Gennady Golovkin-Willie Monroe, Jr. fight this Saturday. Golovkin may not be the star Floyd is, but he’s arguably the most exciting fighter in the world right now. If Canelo and Golovkin end up fighting, do yourself a favor and watch. Same if Sergey Kovalev and Adonis Stevenson fight.

Boxing may not be what it once was, but it’s far from dead. You just have to pay attention.
