UA-59049186-1 WrestleMania XXXI Review - Good if it Goes

WrestleMania XXXI Review

Daniel Bryan defeated Dolph Ziggler, Stardust, R-Truth, Luke Harper, Wade Barrett, and Dean Ambrose in a Ladder Match to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship

This was a good match, but I expected a little more. There were a good amount of high spots and Dean Ambrose took a nasty bump through a ladder. In the end, Bryan and Ziggler traded headbutts at the top of a ladder, Bryan knocked Ziggler off the ladder, and grabbed the belt. ★★★¾

Randy Orton defeated Seth Rollins

This was a good back-and-forth match. The pace of the match was great and they didn’t try to do too much. Orton won by countering a curb stomp into an RKO. ★★★★¼

Triple H defeated Sting

This was kind of a slow match, which isn’t surprising considering the ages of the participants and how often they wrestle anymore. The pace really didn’t hurt the match. We saw run-ins by D-Generation X and the nWo, the latter of which I didn’t really understand, as Sting fought the nWo in WCW and Hogan became huge in WWE. I guess it could make sense if Hogan hates what The Authority is doing to WWE, although the match wasn’t presented as Sting vs. The Authority, but rather WWE vs. WCW. In any case, I would have much preferred a run-in by the Four Horsemen. Flair was at WrestleMania and Arn Anderson’s an agent. Find someone else that used to be a Horseman and make it happen.

This was a solid match, though a bit overdone with all the run-ins. I would have rated the match a star higher if Sting had gone over. ★★¼

AJ Lee and Paige defeated the Bella Twins

Early on, AJ was knocked off the ring apron and the Bellas got the heat on Paige. Eventually, Paige was able to take out the Bellas, AJ got up, and tagged in. AJ won with the Black Widow on Brie. This was by no means a bad match, but it wasn’t anything special. ★¾

John Cena defeated Rusev to win the WWE United States Championship

This was a solid match, but a little slow and ordinary. Both men had their share of power moves and there was plenty of brawling. Cena won with the Attitude Adjustment. ★★

The Undertaker defeated Bray Wyatt

Taker looked a lot better than he did a year ago. The match was slow (Remember, Taker is 50 and Wyatt was wrestling on an injured ankle), but it worked. Bray got the heat on Taker and then they both got some big moves in. The Undertaker won with the Tombstone Piledriver, but both men came away looking good as a result of the match. ★★★★

Seth Rollins cashed in the Money in the Bank to turn the main event into a Triple Threat match and then defeated Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

Early, before Rollins cashed in, and it was Lesnar vs. Reigns one-on-one, Lesnar dominated Reigns and sent him to Suplex City. Reigns pushed Lesnar into one of the ring posts, busting him open, allowing Reigns to make a comeback. Reigns hit multiple Superman Punches and Spears, but it wasn’t enough to beat Lesnar. Rollins then cashed in the Money in the Bank. Rollins hit a curb stomp on Lesnar, but Lesnar kicked out. Lesnar then went for the F5 on Rollins, but was speared by Reigns. Rollins then hit the Curb Stomp on Reigns and pinned him to win the title. This was a well-done match, and I liked the finish. ★★★¾

Overall, this was a good show. There weren’t any really bad matches, but there weren’t any instant classics either. ★★★¼
