WWE Fast Lane Review

Seth Rollins, Big Show, and Kane defeated Dolph Ziggler, Erick Rowan, and Ryback

This was a slow match, with a good amount of it spent with the heels getting the heat on Rowan. Eventually Steroid Guy took the hot tag and showed everyone that he still can’t wrestle. After he hit Shell Shocked, Big Slow prevented him from getting the pin and this match kept going. Ziggler took a hot tag, eventually got Kane in the corner, but Big Show went over to the corner and, with the ref distracted, hit Ziggler with the Knockout Punch, allowing Kane to get the pin. -★

Goldust defeated Stardust

Prior to the match, Dusty Rhodes implored Goldust not to hurt his brother. Goldust vowed to bring Cody back. This was a well-done match, with a good pace. Stardust seemed to be fighting an inner battle when the fans chanted “Cody.” Goldust won with a roll-up, then after the match Stardust beat Goldust up backstage. ★★★

Cesaro and Tyson Kidd defeated The Usos to win the WWE Tag Team Championship

This was a good back-and-forth match that would have been better were it not for a couple of missed spots. Tyson Kidd ended up getting the pin with a roll-up, because apparently none of the agents in WWE think. ★★¼

Nikki Bella defeated Paige to retain the WWE ~~Women’s~~ Divas Championship

Nikki got the heat on Paige, hitting a couple power moves in the process. Nikki still sucks in the ring, but yet she was just complaining about the divas in WWE not having longer matches. I really hope nobody in WWE was listening to her, because she can’t handle the time she gets. Nikki won with, you guessed it, a roll-up! Three in a row now. -½

Bad News Barrett defeated Dean Ambrose by disqualification to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship

Ambrose controlled the match and had an answer for everything Barrett tried to do. Barrett tried taking his belt and running away before Ambrose got him back in the ring. However, the Lunatic Fringe lived up to his nickname, refusing to quit hitting Barrett while he was in the corner, getting disqualified for doing so. At least it wasn’t a roll-up. Afterward, Ambrose left with the belt. ★★¾

Rusev defeated John Cena to retain the WWE United States Championship

This was a slow match, with a lot of holds, but it was still better than I expected it to be. Both men broke out of the other’s submission hold, and the finish came when Lana distracted the referee, allowing Rusev to hit Cena with a low blow, then kick him the the face and put him in the accolade. Cena passed out, giving Rusev the win. This was the worst finish they could have done. I would have preferred Cena winning to make the U.S. Title look really important, but I’m okay with Rusev going over to look strong, too. But have Rusev go over clean. If it goes in the books as a submission loss for Cena anyway, then really make Rusev look good and have Cena tap out. This was a solid match that was hurt by a lousy finish. ★¾

Roman Reigns defeated Daniel Bryan in a match to determine the #1 contender to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship

This was a well-done match, with Reigns using his strength and Bryan working Reigns’ legs. We saw a lot of good back-and-forth action. Bryan countered Reigns’ spear with a running knee, leading to a near-fall. Bryan would try to hit another running knee, but this one would be countered with a spear by Reigns, allowing him to get the win. Gotta make Reigns look strong.

Anyway, this looks like an attempt to get the fans behind Reigns, but I highly doubt it’s going to work. If Reigns wins the title at WrestleMania, the only way I could see the show not ending with a chorus of boos is if Rollins cashes in the Money in the Bank and wins the title.

This was a good match, but I really don’t see Reigns putting on a particularly great match with Brock Lesnar. But enough negativity for now, let’s just appreciate that this was a very good Roman Reigns match, bringing the total number of good Reigns singles matches to…uh…one. ★★★¾

Overall, there were some pretty good matches with lousy finishes, none of which the crowd seemed to care about. ★¾
