Why We Should Respect Indiana Basketball

Earlier today, this Twitter exchange occurred between Ace Anbender, basketball reporter for MGoBlog, and a couple of his readers:

Now, Ace, as well as everyone else at MGoBlog, is great at what he does, but Brad’s right, he needs to show IU basketball some respect. And how can you say you can’t think of a single reason to do so, when there are so many? Reasons such as:

• Most of the time, Tom Crean doesn’t berate opposing coaches after the game.
• Sometimes, Crean gives them real handshakes, too.
• When it comes to throwing furniture, name someone better than Bob Knight. You can’t.
• IU was nice enough to hire Crean and thus prevent everyone else from making the very bad, very expensive mistake of paying him to coach.
• They were the last team to go undefeated, and despite it happening almost forty years ago, their fans still love to talk about it. (Note: This may not be on the list much longer.)
• Crean truly believes in his players. After all, he thinks Guy-Marc Michel and Jordan Hulls are NBA-caliber players.
• Only five other Big Ten teams have made the Final Four since the last time IU did.
• What about all those players that Bob Knight didn’t choke?
• And what about all those players that didn’t get DUIs these last couple years?
• And finally, just look at this picture and tell me it doesn’t scream “Future Hall of Fame Coach”:
