UA-59049186-1 Penn State 42, Michigan 13 - Good if it Goes

Penn State 42, Michigan 13

That was real bad. To find out how bad, let’s look at the

Player Grades

The grading scale goes from -3 to +3 for each play. Penalties are counted in whatever phase they were committed. “Short” throws are 10 yards or less, “Medium” is 10-20, “Deep” is over 20. Everything else (scrambles, throwaways, etc.) is under “Miscellaneous.”

So what happened?

Give Penn State credit – those guys are good. Give Joe Moorhead credit, too, he found a way to solve Michigan’s defense. Penn State definitely had some good fortune on passes that Trace McSorley threw up there, but the big runs were just Penn State’s guys making plays and Michigan’s guys not making them. Should you be worried about the defense after this? No, not really. I mean, the safeties definitely aren’t as good as we had hoped they would be going into the season, but this safety group being the weak point of the defense is a problem a lot of teams would love to have. Don Brown has got to make sure Mike McCray doesn’t end up in coverage on any more top-flight RBs. It went badly in the Orange Bowl and it went worse here. Stop letting it happen.

Offensively, the team put together a couple drives, but otherwise – woof. John O’Korn made a few nice throws to get his grade for this one to meh status, but continued to not feel pressure like he needs to. Pass pro was awful (Juwann Bushell-Beatty set a new record for minuses), but a couple of the hits were caused by O’Korn’s indecisiveness. It needs to be Peters time. We good here? You want to talk about this more? No? Okay.
