I’m really excited about Vilain as a prospect. His Hudl film shows a ton of raw athleticism. Often, Vilain was able to use his quickness to get around the edge. When a lineman got in his way, he showed off his strength. I was particularly impressed with Vilain’s ability to defend the read option. His film showed college-level instincts despite being only a high school junior. Once he gets to Ann Arbor, Vilain will have to add a little weight before seeing the field, likely at WDE/SAM/edge rusher/whatever other position Don Brown invents whose job is “annihilate the QB.” His moves need some real work, but Michigan has a great DC and a great DL coach, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about this.
