This Week’s Top 10: Athletes You Wish You Could Have Seen Live

Fun concept for this week’s top 10: athletes you wish you could have seen live. We’re all in our twenties, so we’re close enough in ages for a composite list to work. To qualify for the list, the athlete had to be one that you were too young to see live. So, guys like Jordan and Gretzky didn’t count. Five is old enough to have seen them play, even if you didn’t see their primes. With that in consideration, I came up with four honorable mentions: Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Mike Tyson, and Barry Sanders.

The GIIG Composite List:

(A 1st-place vote is worth 10 points, a 2nd-place vote is worth 9, a 3rd-place vote is worth 8, and so on. The list was voted on by myself, Qwan, Shayne, and Mike. Team colors are the teams the player was with the longest, except for Wilt Chamberlain, because the Warriors moved while he was with them and he’s probably best-known as a 76er. Athletes from individual sports are not given colors.)

Others receiving votes: Hank Aaron – 6, Ron Santo – 6, Pele – 6, Gordie Howe – 5, Sugar Ray Robinson – 5, Tom Harmon – 4, Stan Mikita – 3, Nolan Ryan – 3, Pete Maravich – 3, Bo Jackson – 2, Bill Walton – 2, O.J. Simpson – 2, Bobby Orr – 1, Johnny Unitas – 1

How we voted:

I counted Bo Jackson as being from Auburn, because he played two sports, which is why he made the list in the first place, so I couldn’t put one team over the other. And I took a little liberty with the Fab Five. I was one when they played their last game together. I say that counts. And since I’m the one who makes the lists, if I say it counts, it counts.
