This Week’s Top 10: Best Championship Trophies
- Updated: June 29, 2016
This week, we’re going to look at the ten best championship trophies in sports. Again, this list is limited to trophies for winning a league or event, so things like the Heisman or the Gold Glove are not included here. We’ll look at those in another list. Now let’s dive in!
Honorable mention: Ryder Cup, Triple Crown Trophy (horse racing)
10. Kentucky Derby Trophy and Roses
The Derby truly is the most exciting two minutes in sports. Few events can make it’s history and traditions.
9. Olympic gold medal
The symbol of reaching the pinnacle of your chosen sport and doing so for your country, it gets knocked down quite a few spots on this list for being awarded for a lot of goofy crap. (Hockey’s awesome, though, and definitely medal-worthy.)
8. Boxing championship belts
There’s just something awesome about championship belts. However, similar to the case with the Olympic gold, their standing on this list is limited by the fact that there are so many different weight classes and sanctioning bodies.
7. Wanamaker Trophy
The trophy dates back to the founding of the PGA and is named for its founder.
6. Larry O’ Brien Trophy
As far as sporting events go, it doesn’t get a whole lot better than the NBA Finals. It’s prize has a nice design.
5. Vince Lombardi Trophy
The highly-sought after trophy has a simple, but dignified design.
4. Green Jacket
The jacket presentation makes for a great end to a great tournament.
3. Grey Cup
Around since 1909, the Grey Cup has to be the most underrated trophy in sports.
2. Claret Jug
The prize for golf’s oldest major, the trophy dates back to 1872; however, the one currently presented is a replica that’s been in use since 1928.
1. Stanley Cup
The greatest trophy in sports. Also, the hardest to win. The Cup’s got a ton of history and the traditions around it are simply awesome.
Remember, this is just one man’s opinion; however, it is the correct one. If you feel differently, well then, let’s argue! And if we’re going to argue, you’re going to need your official arguing gear from What A Maneuver!
