UA-59049186-1 Eagles Direction Before Week 1 - Good if it Goes

Eagles Direction Before Week 1

I’m not sure if the Philadelphia Eagles actually had this plan before Week 1. Getting rid of Sam Bumford is always a good thing because he always comes with a big price tag. Why did the Eagles give him that money to just trade him months later? What was the point when he was crying about being traded and the team naming him a starter?

If the goal was to start Carson Wentz, why go through all of the nonsense? The Eagles definitely robbed Minnesota out of a first round pick. The Vikings must have thought they needed somebody ASAP after losing Teddy Bridgewater for the season. If all goes well, they do not care about losing a 27th pick in the first round if they make a deep run in the playoffs all the way to the Super Bowl (not likely).

It seems as though the Eagles are back at square one with the reset button being pressed since Wentz is the Week 1 starter. They took the longest route possible to get to this point. I really don’t know what to make of this team. They are unproven on offense and have consistency issues on defense. I have more faith in the defense and special teams but the offense could set them up for failure. There will be ups and downs with a rookie starter but for the Eagles sake, there are more ups. You don’t pay that steep price for someone that is average. You do not throw him to the wolves if you do not think he can survive.

It is not the days of the 3-year plan because by three years, most guys are out of the league or career backups without even blinking. The Eagles can contend but not this year though. The goal for them should be progress. You have quarterbacks coming into the league, starting and succeeding right out of the draft but there are way more guys that fail. Lets hope Wentz is a part of the former.
