Quarterback’s Win Championships – A Breakdown between TOOMANYTROPHIESTom Brady and DANGERussell Wilson

THE BIG GAME

Defense wins championships but last night’s turnaround Super Bowl proved not to be the case. I know what you all are going to say.

“Malcolm Butler won the game with an interception.” Yes, that would be a fair and obvious assessment, but one play does not win a football game. Quarterback assessment is always a necessary thing to analyze. The quarterback is the leader and anchor of the team. He’s the only person constantly handling the ball.

SHOULDA, COULDA, WOULDA 

Big time players separate themselves from the rest. In the biggest game of Russell Wilson’s fresh career, he folded.  The Seahawks offensive coordinator should have called the running play. Hand it off to Marshawn Lynch. Wilson was given one final chance, choked and cost his team the game.

During his post-game interview, Wilson made himself accountable and took full responsibility of the final few seconds. Regardless of the tragedy, Wilson taking showed his selflessness for his team. Moving forward, the Seahawks will learn and grown from the big mistake.

On the opposite end, Tom Brady went on a perfect 8 and 8 drive for 65 yards on the Patriots final drive. Receiver Julian Edelman caught Brady’s pass for the game winner on a pass pivot route.  Ya’ll can hate Brady all you want, but he performs in the clutch. He is the only quarterback I am trusting with the game on the line to win a Super Bowl.

I can already see Giants fan grunting at my next statement (and rightfully so), but Tom Brady embodies how a great quarterback performs.  To even the score, Brady made two costly turnovers putting Patriots in a bad spot that should have cost them the game. Brady’s resiliency put the cap on his fourth Super Bowl and earned his stripe as the greatest quarterback ever.

 

ALMOST ELITE AMONG THE ELITE

What separates Wilson and Brady is pretty simple; Brady completed his drive and Wilson did not. The margin of error in football is too small in becoming an “elite” quarterback.

Wilson is not terrible but is protected by a decent offensive line has the best running back in the league in the backfield. With his strong scrambling and running abilities, he is is able to throw the ball downfield in motion.

Regardless of these attributes, Wilson does not have the spark placing him with elites. I cannot see him leading his team to multiple championships. Contrasting his efforts in last year’s Super Bowl, his defense did most of the work. His counterpart had an off day completing 37 of 50 passes, racking up 328 yards with and four touchdowns. Amazing stat line to say the least.

 

RECOGNIZE THE G.O.A.T.

The final pass play’s of Super Bowl 49 separated the G.O.A.T. and the “almost goat.” Seahawks fans, bandwagon fans (synonymous), Patriot haters and everyone in America did not know what to think of the final play call by Seattle.  That one mistake solidified why their running game is more important than passing. With a controlled running game and a great defense you too can be Super Bowl runner-ups (note the sarcasm here).

When push comes to shove, the quarterback has to make the clutch throw if their coordinator wants to make that daring call. So you guys can hand the ball tell Russell to throw, whatever works. I am keeping my faith at the expense of Tom Brady.
