This year’s safety class is, frankly, a mediocre one. A pair from Alabama lead the class, with one, Brian Branch, worth a first-round pick. Branch has the ability to play all over the field in different packages. His value in the NFL looks highest at safety or nickel. His Crimson Tide teammate, Jordan Battle, projects as a quality strong safety. Illinois’ Sydney Brown has good athleticism and intriguing ball skills, but doesn’t have the size or length you’d normally want in a safety.
