Blues 5, Blackhawks 2 – Recap
- Updated: October 12, 2016
The Blackhawks got out to a nice start, but then the offense stagnated had difficulties finding scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, the Blues got multiple chances on the power play after a series of Blackhawks penalties and the Hawks’ PK unit was not up to the task. The Hawks gave up three power play goals in all. The Hawks battled back late, but they were unable to score and the Blues added two with an empty net, the second one an own goal by the Hawks.
A few things
- The Hawks have the talent to be a very nice team this year. The young guys played well. Motte, Hartman, and Forsling in particular stood out.
- TvR will almost certainly get benched for Hjalmarsson in Nashville. He took a couple bad penalties and didn’t do much to atone for them.
- The Hawks need to get a whole lot better at controlling the puck. If you’re going to play a skill-based game as the Hawks do, you have to maintain possession of the puck. This was the biggest thing that led to the Hawks’ early exit from last year’s playoffs.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Tyler Motte, LW, CHI (1 A)
★★ Paul Stastny, C, STL (1 G (GWG), 2 A)
★ Vladimir Tarasenko, RW, STL (2 G, 1 A)
