Sabres 5, Blackhawks 3
- Updated: March 17, 2018
The Blackhawks got three goals and got decent goaltending, but took too many stupid penalties and ended up losing to Buffalo for the first time this decade. The game was back-and-forth the whole way. Buffalo struck first late in the first on a goal by Benoit Pouliot. The Hawks tied the game in the second on a goal by Jordan Oesterle set up by a great pass by Patrick Kane. The Sabres got the lead back a few minutes later on a power play that was the result of a stupid Tomas Jurco penalty, but Jurco would tie the game (or get credit for doing so, anyway) a few minutes later as he shot the puck toward the net and a Sabres player kicked it in his own net. The Hawks took the lead 20 seconds into the third on a goal by Jonathan Toews, but a pair of Nicholas Baptiste goals gave the Sabres the lead back. The latter came on a power play from an idiotic penalty by Duncan Keith. Sam Reinhart would add an empty netter.
The Hawks will look to rebound tomorrow against St. Louis.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Sam Reinhart, C, BUF (1 G, 2 A)
★★ Jonathan Toews, C, CHI (1 G, 1 A)
★ Nicholas Baptiste, RW, BUF (2 G (GWG))
