2025 Week 2: Chicago Bears 21, Detroit Lions 52
- Updated: September 20, 2025

Player Grades
The grading scale goes from -2 to +2, in half-point increments, for each play. Screens are graded as runs. Penalties are counted in whatever phase they were committed. Pre- and post-snap penalties are in the “Misc.” column. “Short” throws are less than 15 yards, “Deep” is over 15 or more. Everything else (scrambles, throwaways, reads, etc.) is under “Miscellaneous.” Parentheses in a column denote grades/snaps from the opposite side of the ball and are not included in grades/snaps from the player’s usual side. Snap counts are from Pro Football Reference. Box score and other relevant info can be found at that link as well.
Note: Grading stopped after the third quarter this week, when the Bears went down 31. That being the case, no snap counts this week.
So…
I decided about halfway through the game that this week’s column was just going to be a list of reasons that Ryan Poles should be fired.
- Hiring Matt Eberflus
- Khalil Mack for a pick that became Jaquan Brisker
- Still not having a capable pass rush
- Trading a 2nd round pick for Montez Sweat just for him to forget how to play football
- Only getting a 2nd round pick for Roquan Smith
- $16 million a year for Tremaine Edmunds
- Extending TJ Edwards at $10 million per year after a year where it was clear he had lost a step
- Drafting two guys in the 2nd round who were healthy scratches Sunday, one of whom can’t even beat out Chris Williams for playing time, instead of saying “you know what, screw the medicals” and taking a chance on Will Johnson when your CB2 is Tyrique Stevenson
- Kiran Amegadjie
I might have missed some. I don’t know. I’m tired of thinking about that jabroni. Everyone in the know seems to think Ben’s actually in charge of the roster now, so there’s hope. Dude didn’t mince words when talking about the team – he straight up said their practice habits weren’t good enough, nor was the effort during games. I know the win-loss column doesn’t reflect it right now, but it really feels like he’s got this. The offense was noticably better and Caleb looked more comfortable. Unfortunately, it looks like that’s all we’ll be able to ask of this season. Yeah, it’s early, but there’s just no way to fix a defensive roster this bad on the fly.
Monsters
Kmet. Jaylon before he got hurt. Sewell was good. Dalman bounced back nicely. Caleb took a step forward.
Chipmunks
Swift made a couple bad reads and fumbled. DJ Moore’s effort left a lot to be desired, especially in blocking. Braxton Jones was terrible. So was Byard. Dexter kept getting taken out of plays. Edmunds made another entry on his “why I should be cut next summer” list. Edwards was a liabilty in coverage and wasn’t even making plays in the run game. Odeyingbo had another lousy game. Chris Williams mostly stunk when on the field, particularly galling when he’s seen as a better idea than Shemar Turner.
Four Stars of the Game
Eminem
Bob Seger
the final whistle
Cole Kmet and Jaylon Johnson.
Honorable mention: Ryan Pace, who drafted Kmet and Johnson
