Bellator 138: Kimbo Slice Beats Up Senior Citizen
- Updated: June 24, 2015
Let me start off by saying that I know next to nothing about MMA. I’m not really fan of the sport and I don’t really care about any fighters other than Kimbo and anyone who is or was a pro wrestler. But since both fighters in the main event of Bellator 138 fell into that category (and Bobby Lashley was on the undercard, where he handily defeated Dan Charles), I watched the show.
Shamrock took Kimbo down a couple times, putting him in a rear naked choke the second time, but Kimbo was able to break the hold. Kimbo caught Shamrock with a right hand that knocked him down and out.
Joe Rogan said the fight looked fake, partly because Shamrock didn’t try punching Kimbo. Again, I know next to nothing about MMA and even I know that Grandpa Shamrock wasn’t going to win this fight on strikes. This was Kimbo’s first MMA fight since May 2010, because he had been focusing on a boxing career, where he’s 7-0, with 6 KOs. More of his fights have lasted less than a minute than have gone into the third round.
The show drew 1.6 million viewers and the main event drew 2.1 million. Those are good numbers, so the show definitely brought some new eyes to the sport. There are currently talks that Old Man Shamrock may fight Royce Gracie at a future event.
