UA-59049186-1 NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II Review - Good if it Goes

NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II Review

Austin Aries defeated No Way Jose

No Way Jose strikes me as a combination of Carlito and Dee Jay from Street Fighter. I think his gimmick’s pretty silly, but he impressed me in the ring. Solid opening match. ★★★¼

Ember Moon defeated Billie Kay

Don’t let Billie Kay wrestle anymore. Ember Moon really impressed me and her finisher was awesome (spinning stunner off the top rope), but man, was Billie bad. ¾

Bobby Roode defeated Andrade “Cien” Almas

Bobby Roode made a glorious entrance. The match was just pretty good. The positives: Almas can really go in the ring and Roode’s a very good heel. Also his theme music is glorious. ★★¾

The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson) defeated Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano to retain the NXT Tag Team Championship

I get it – Dash and Dawson are heels. There is such a thing as too many underhanded tactics and that’s what we saw here. The match was very good and I’d rate it a decent amount higher, but as I said, they overdid the interference and it got in the way. ★★★½

Asuka defeated Bayley to retain the NXT Women’s Championship

Solid match, but not at the level of their first match at NXT Takeover: Dallas. ★★¾

Shinsuke Nakamura defeated Samoa Joe to win the NXT Championship

Both of these guys are such great wrestlers that it seems like a bit of a letdown when they have a regular good match. Was the match as good as it could have been? No. Was it very good nonetheless? Absolutely. Nakamura had a live violin playing during his entrance and the fans were singing his theme song into the start of the match and later, apparently out the door. I’d like to see these two get one more match together and really show NXT what strong style means. ★★★¾

Overall: It was a good show, but not a great show. Nothing spectacular, but definitely worth the watch. ★★★
