So Dada 5000’s Heart Stopped After His Fight With Kimbo Slice at Bellator 149, But He’s Okay, So The Fight’s Funny Again

No, you didn’t dream that. Kimbo Slice and Dada 5000 really did have one of the worst greatest fights ever at Bellator 149. It was supposed to be a slugfest. It turned into a hugfest. The condition these fighters were in was truly impressive – I’ve never seen people blow up so quickly. These guys were gassed a minute into the first round. They stumbled around the cage for another ten minutes and change until Dada was just leaning on Kimbo, Kimbo landed a glancing blow, and Dada just kind of fell over. Here’s the video: [Deadspin]

Twitter, of course, had a field day with this debacle. Referee John McCarthy’s take on the events was the cherry on top, though:

“I honestly thought it would be over within the first round,” said McCarthy, who officiated at Saturday night’s WSOF 28 here in Orange County. “And you know, when we got to the end of the first round, I thought, ‘Oh my God, this thing’s going to go all three rounds.'”

But here’s where it gets not-so-funny, Dada had to be stretchered out of the ring and taken to the hospital. His heart stopped briefly.

But he’s going to be okay, so now the fight’s funny again.

If that wasn’t enough, the main event featured Ken Shamrock, who, it should be noted, got beat badly by Kimbo in his last fight vs. Royce Gracie in a “Bottle of Geritol on a Pole” match. Qwan thought Royce looked ancient. Then I told him he was the younger one in the fight and his mind exploded. The fight was about what you would expect from a 49-year-old and a 52-year-old. Then Royce hit Shamrock in the groin area (Shamrock claimed he got hit in the balls, but it didn’t look so clear to me), took him down, and got the TKO. Suddenly, the Kimbo-Dada fight doesn’t look so bad.
