WWE Money In The Bank 2016 Review
- Updated: June 22, 2016
Here’s the deal: Money In The Bank was going on at the same time as the NBA Finals, so we were kind of preoccupied with that. Our bad. Sean may still post a more detailed review, for now, here are a few quick thoughts.
First, my ratings:
Fatal 4-Way Tag Match: This was kind of a mess, as they tend to be because they’re really difficult to put together, and then they blew the finish. English was supposed to be out of the match, but they still had him as the legal man.
Corbin vs. Ziggler: This was probably Corbin’s best match yet, but he’s still got a ways to go in the ring. Really don’t need to see these two wrestle again.
Women’s Tag Match: What is the point of Dana Brooke? Like, if she still looked like a bodybuilder, I could at least understand using her as sort of a poor man’s (woman’s?) Beth Phoenix. But she doesn’t have a physique like Beth did, and while it’s not like she’s out of shape or anything, she’s just really generic. She’s got so little charisma that she’d have to borrow some to have none, and she’s so limited in the ring that they had to completely hide her in this match. If they needed a blond to do the spot where they teased Flair interfering at Extreme Rules, why not use Summer Rae? She at least has charisma and is passable to fair in the ring.
Sheamus vs. Crews: Thought they kind of buried Crews on commentary after he won. They put this over as a fluke when it should have been presented as a big win for a promising talent. The match was mediocre, but that was 100% on Sheamus.
Styles vs. Cena: I docked this a half-star for the finish, so that should tell you what I thought of the match otherwise. I thought a better finish, if they were going to do a run-in, was debut a new member of The Club (Balor?) and get it over as AJ not promising that he wouldn’t interfere.
Money In The Bank Ladder Match: Well done by everybody. Not just a spotfest.
Rusev vs. Titus O’Neil: Don’t ever need to see this again. Slow and boring.
Rollins vs. Reigns: Rollins deserves a bonus for this. Reigns was passable, but it really showed off how limited he is in the ring. Nice to see Rollins win clean.
Rollins vs. Ambrose: I’m torn on this one. Rollins could be pushed as a babyface after making his comeback and the special they aired on the network detailing it, but they could get this over as Ambrose still having a grudge against Rollins, comeback or not. They should have put the belt on Ambrose when he was way over last fall, but this is still quicker than Vince usually picks up on things, so progress.
