WWE NXT Takeover Unstoppable Review

Finn Balor defeated Tyler Breeze to become the #1 contender to the NXT Championship

This was a back-and-forth match that saw both guys get big moves in. Breeze exposed a turnbuckle and Balor hit. Breeze then hit the Beauty Shot, but Balor was able to kick out. The match went to the outside, where Balor dove onto Breeze from the top of the stage. After the match made it back into the ring, Balor hit the Coup de Grace for the win. ★★★★

Charlotte and Bailey defeated Emma and Dana Brooke

Of all the women’s tag team matches I’ve seen, this was one of them. As much as I like Charlotte, this match was nothing special. Still, it was better than what any four Divas from the main roster could do. Charlotte pinned Emma after Natural Selection. ★★¼

Baron Corbin defeated Rhyno

This was a fast-paced brawl with both men looking to gain the upper hand. Rhyno would attempt a Gore, but Corbin would counter with a clothesline and hit End of Days for the win. Going into the match, I wasn’t expecting a whole lot out of it, but I was pleasantly surprised. Both mean delivered and the two worked well together. ★★★

Blake and Murphy defeated Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady to retain the NXT Tag Team Championship

First off, Enzo Amore cuts better promos than anyone in the company other than Bray Wyatt. The guy is just awesome on the mic and he has tons of charisma. He has “it.” And you can’t teach that.

Enzo started, then Big Cass tagged in and hit some power moves. Big Cass is just awesome, too. He’s 7-foot tall (and you can’t teach that), but he can really go in the ring.

Enzo tagged back in, and Blake and Murphy got the heat on him. Big Cass took the hot tag and made the comeback for the team. Cassady was about to throw Enzo from the top to go for the win, but Alexa Bliss came out, attacked Carmella, distracted Cassady, knocked Enzo off the top and he was pinned. ★★★¼

Sasha Banks defeated Becky Lynch to retain the NXT Women’s Championship

The match started with good chain wrestling, but then Sasha took control and got the heat on Becky. Becky made a comeback, then the match was back-and-forth. The two worked each other’s arms. Becky locked in an armbar, but Sasha got to the ropes. Sasha threw Becky out of the ring and dove on her, but Becky caught her and threw her into the steps. Becky threw Sasha back into the ring and went to the top, but Sasha pulled her down, hurting her arm further. Sasha then locked in the Banks Statement for the submission win. This match was awesome. It was one of the best women’s matches I’ve ever seen and Becky Lynch is my new favorite female wrestler. (Sorry, Nattie.) ★★★★¼

Kevin Owens fought Sami Zayn to a No Contest (I think) in a match for the NXT Championship

Owens stepped out of the ring right after bell and Sami went after him. The two fought on the outside, then into the crowd. The match would make its way back into the ring, where Sami took control. Owens left the ring and took control back on the outside. Owens hit a Pop-up Powerbomb on apron. Doctors came out to check on Sami, but Owens kept hitting him. Owens threw Sami back into the ring and tried to attack him again, but NXT General Manager William Regal threatened to take away Owens’ NXT Championship, as well as his match with John Cena at Elimination Chamber, live on the WWE Network this Sunday. (Hey, Triple H, how ya doin’? You’re welcome for the cheap plug, now how about picking Qwan for Tough Enough? Here’s his audition video.) Owens backed off, then went back at him, but Regal hooked his nose. Owens headbutted Regal, left the ring, grabbed his belt and a chair, then went back into the ring to hit Sami with the chair.

Then Samoa Joe came out.

As they say, it was lit.

Owens teased a fight with Joe, but left the ring. I’m not sure what they ended up calling this match (my guess was a no contest), but I’m not too upset about that. I would have liked to see the match go longer, as prior to the stoppage, it was headed for five stars. ★★★★½

Overall: This. Was. Awesome. Everyone delivered. I really hope the main roster was paying attention. ★★★½
