Adrien Broner vs Adrian Granados Analysis
- Updated: February 18, 2017
Adrien Broner 32-2(24 KO) vs Adrian Granados 18-4(12 KO)
Adrien Broner’s career is quite an interesting one. Heralded as a future star, multiple weight champion, loved and hated for his brash attitude and seemingly rip off of Floyd Mayweather’s approach in and out of the ring. Moves up in weight and summarily gets embarrassed by Marcos Maidana in a fight in which the world reveled. Memes upon memes were created that night and the Adrien Broner luster hasn’t been the same since. Since then he’s lost to Shawn Porter in a sloppy affair and has beaten overmatched opponents yet again.
Adrian Granados has had none of the fanfare that Broner and outside of beating Amir Imam, all his other fights with top level prospects have resulted in losses. But look closer and you’ll see a lot of MD’s and SD’s against guys like Felix Diaz, Oscar Gomez and Brad Solomon. Actually watch the fights and you’ll come away thinking that Granados actually won them. He’s actually that good of a fighter. Sometimes records don’t reflect that (see the Drunken Master, Emmanuel Augustus).
Broner needs to really outwork Granados in this fight to win it. Pushing him backwards and letting his hands go is the recipe for success. While Granados is a capable boxer, I think he’s better when he can really press the action. Countering is great but we’ve seen Broner lose lately and look bad against fighters who really push the tempo and don’t allow him to get off. Broner still has that power as well.
Granados needs to be relentless in his attack. You don’t get chances like this all the time. A win over Broner means continuing momentum and even bigger fights going forward. As I said earlier, Broner has been taken out of his gameplan against fighters who really imposed themselves and threw so much his workrate lowered. Getting Broner against the ropes and getting inside on him has been the winning gameplan with Maidana and Porter. If Granados can replicate that..we shall see.
Granados by Decision. I think he can do this. He’s fought top caliber fighters before and put in great performances that could’ve been wins if he’d had a different name.
