That was a bad game, because the Hawks did that thing we’ve seen them do a few times this year where they play flat and don’t get the puck in the offensive zone and when they do, they don’t get good looks. The defense was mostly pretty good. Crawford was okay. The first goal wasn’t his fault, the second one wasn’t a good one to give up.
Now for what I’m sure you want to talk about: Kane’s point streak ended at 26 games. Let’s be honest – it was going to end sometime, and that sometime was going to be long before he even sniffed Gretzky’s mark. Gretzky’s streak took place in a time when there were a lot more goals scored than are scored now. And Gretzky was, you know, Gretzky. They called him “The Great One,” retired his number league-wide, and inducted him into the Hall of Fame immediately after his retirement for a reason: he was the greatest hockey player ever. How many other athletes dominated a sport the way he dominated hockey? You could make a case for Jordan, but even that’s a toss-up. Tiger in his prime, maybe? Getting to 26 in today’s NHL is an awesome achievement and at least he passed Crosby.
My picks for 3 stars:
★★★ Nathan MacKinnon, C, COL (2 A)
★★ Matt Duchene, C, COL (1 G, GWG)
★ Semyon Varlamov, G, COL (29 SV, SO)
