Copa America 2016
- Updated: February 22, 2016
The drawings for the Copa America 16 team tournament were announced tonight:
Group A
United States
Colombia
Costa Rica
Paraguay
This is an absolutely brutal draw for the United States. Colombia and Costa Rica are clearly better teams. Paraguay is certainly no slouch, either – probably the best 4th-seeded team in the tournament. I like Colombia to win the group with Costa Rica finishing 2nd.
Group B
Brazil
Ecuador
Haiti
Peru
Pretty easy draw for Brazil here. Can’t see any way they don’t win this group. Ecuador should finish 2nd.
Group C
Mexico
Uruguay
Jamaica
Venezuela
Mexico is clearly the favorite here and they are happy to avoid Chile in group play. Uruguay is a solid team and while I think they finish 2nd and advance, Mexico is definitely winning this group.
Group D
Argentina
Chile
Panama
Bolivia
You could certainly make a case that Argentina and Chile are the two best teams in this whole tournament and it would be hard to argue. Argentina wins this group and Chile finishes 2nd.
Yes, I am aware I picked both favorites from each group to advance and that’s lame, but I just don’t see any real upsets happening in the group stage. Should be a fun tournament and I look forward to being at Soldier Field on June 22nd in the semi-finals rooting on mis hermanos Mexicanos.
