Here’s a list of Michigan’s 2016 recruiting class:

m-crootin

The class finished #5 in the country according to the 247 Composite. Evaluations of each recruit can be found here:

Early Enrollees

Offense

Defense

Quinn Nordin, 3* K

Highlights

Strengths

– Big leg

– Accurate

– Can punt

Needs work

– Uh, do kicker-type stuff even better, I guess

In 2017: Probably redshirts. Michigan still has Kenny Allen on the roster and he can kick and punt. Andrew David could possibly compete for the kicking job this year, though it doesn’t seem to say good things about him that Michigan spent a second scholarship on a kicker, especially in consecutive years. Nordin should be fine at the college level.

Awards

Top recruit – offense: QB Brandon Peters. Peters has a big arm, puts great touch on the ball, and can use his legs to make a play. What really impressed me watching him was his poise and decision-making. Very advanced for a high schooler. Aaron Rodgers-like.

Top recruit – defense: DL Rashan Gary. Really, who else would it be? Gary’s a freakish athlete for someone of his size. He possesses great strength and quick feet. He’ll play a big role right away.

Sleeper – offense: RB Kingston Davis. I’m not sure exactly where he’s going to play at Michigan. My guess right now i that we’ll see him do kind of what Sione Houma did last year, where he can be used as a TB or RB. (It wouldn’t surprise me to see Michigan do the same thing with De’Veon Smith.) In any case, I thought Davis looked really good on film, certainly above his 3* rating.

Sleeper – defense: S Khaleke Hudson. Two of the recruiting services gave him a fourth star, but he’s stil llisted as a 3* in the 247 Composite, so I say he counts. The best way I can describe Hudson is to channel my inner Jon Gruden and say this guy right here’s just a football player, man. He can do it all.
