Top 100 NBA Players of 2016: 100-91

Intro

It’s that time again. Every year around this time, I like to release my top 100 NBA players list for the year. I’ll be releasing the list in 10-player increments until we reach the top 10. Hope you enjoy the list.

  1. SF. Otto Porter Jr – Washington Wizards
  • Long, rangy combo forward that thrives in the mid-range area
  • Developing offensive wing with the potential to be a legitimate secondary scoring option.
  • Good defender with the potential to be great. Can guard multiple positions.
  1. SF. DeMarre Carroll – Toronto Raptors
  • 3 and D wing whose results last year were skewed due to injury and missed time on the court.
  • Physical forward that can defend multiple positions and play some 4 in small ball lineups. Gets his hands on the ball on defense and gets a lot of steals.
  • Mostly an off-ball player offensively that spots up and spaces the floor.
  1. C. Joakim Noah – New York Knicks
  • High energy but injury-prone Center that is very active on the boards and loves to pass
  • Elite defender when healthy, terrific defending the interior and on the perimeter
  • Limited offensively due to his struggles finishing at the rim and lack of post game.
  1. C. Nikola Jokic – Denver Nuggets
  • Multi-skilled big man that has a ton of potential to be a 2-way star
  • Offensively, he can shoot out to 3-point range, put the ball on the floor or score with his back to the basket.
  • Good defender for such a young big man, he’s very active and long
  1. C. Robin Lopez – Chicago Bulls
  • Highly-active, big-bodied center that feasts on the offensive boards.
  • Functional low post game, especially when he can catch and make a move right away near the basket. Gets most of his points as a roll man or off the offensive glass.
  • Tough interior defender that is more than comfortable banging and blocks shots at a good rate.
  1. PF. Thaddeus Young – Indiana Pacers
  • Undersized 4 that is able to succeed due to his physicality, work ethic, and impressive work on the defensive glass. He has a strong well-built frame, and is more athletic than most 4s.
  • Likes to operate in the high post facing the basket where he can utilize his speed advantage to drive past bigger defenders or get space for pull up mid-range jumpers.
  • Okay defender for his size. Young has the mindset and girth to bang in the interior. Obviously at his size there’s only so much he can do as he offers no rim protection.
  1. SG. Jamal Crawford – Los Angeles Clippers
  • Entertaining high-volume scorer that still has impressive quickness for his age and electric ball handling skills.
  • Isolation scorer that likes to utilize dribble moves to create space and launch jump shots, preferably from mid-range.
  • Lifelong non-defender that doesn’t even seem to want to compete on that end most nights.
  1. PG. George Hill – Utah Jazz
  • 2-way combo guard with silly hair, whose game more resembles a 2 guard than point guard.
  • Effective off-ball scorer that loves to move without the ball to shoot or slash
  • Very good defensive player that can guard either guard spot due to an impressive wing span.
  1. SF. Luol Deng – Los Angles Lakers
  • Savvy veteran 2-way wing that added small ball 4 to his bag of tricks this season.
  • Makes his living almost exclusively off the ball these days as a slasher and spot up shooter. Still an absolute workhorse capable of playing high minutes at a high energy level.
  • Long defender that has lost a step but still effective on that end and capable of defending multiple positions.
  1. SG. Manu Ginobili – San Antonio Spurs
  • Lefty Argentinean 2 guard whose Hall-of-Fame career is rapidly dwindling down.
  • Elite secondary playmaker and passer that simply has amazing vision and instincts. Crafty scorer that can still find a way to maneuver his way into the paint or into a trip to the line.
  • Declining on-ball defender but still effective overall on that end due to his high basketball IQ and high steal rate.
