A year ago, David Montgomery ran for over 1000 yards. That, in and of itself, is no small feat, but the fact that he did so with chaos at both quarterback and on the offensive line should have Bears fans excited about his potential. In addition to his success on the ground, the man known as “Monty” added 438 yards on 54 catches. Always a hard runner, Montgomery added an extra dimension to his game a year ago and began to display more shiftiness than he did as a rookie. This year, he looks to build on a strong end to his 2020 campaign. Steadiness as the QB position will help. If we can get the offensive line healthy, then we’re really cooking with gas.

Damien Williams comes to Chicago to back up Montgomery. From his Welcome post:

“Williams, a former Chief, won Super Bowl LIV as a member of the team. Undrafted out of Oklahoma in 2014, Williams saw limited action in four years in Miami before heading to Kansas City. Williams didn’t see much action in 2018 until the Chiefs let Kareem Hunt go after a domestic violence incident. Williams’ role increased after that point and in 2019, averaged 10 rush attempts and just under 3 receptions per game. Williams opted out of the 2020 season.”

Like Montgomery, Williams is adept in both the run and passing games, so the offense shouldn’t miss a beat when he’s on the field. Standard caveats apply, but Williams has looked quite good thus far in camp.

Tarik Cohen is in the process of recovering from knee surgery after he tore his ACL in week 3 last year. He’s yet to practice and may not be ready for the start of the season. Once he’s back on the field, he’ll look to get back to his 2018 form where he was both a Pro Bowler and First-team All-Pro as a punt returner and a hassle to gameplan for on offense. The addition of Williams should reduce the need to use Cohen as a backup RB and allow Nagy to deploy him all over the field to screw with defenses.
