Welcome to Chicago: Ted Ginn, Jr., Wide Receiver
- Updated: August 21, 2020
Ted Ginn, Jr. comes to Chicago as a replacement for Taylor Gabriel. After being drafted ninth overall by the Dolphins in 2007, Ginn’s career has taken him all over the league. Ginn bookended a solid 2008 with mediocre years in Miami before being traded to San Francisco for a 5th-round pick. Ginn did very little in three years with the 49ers before leaving for Carolina as a free agent. Ginn put up 556 yards and 5 TD with the Panthers in 2013 before signing with Arizona as a free agent in the off-season. As a Cardinal, Ginn averaged less than a catch per game. After a single season in Arizona, Ginn went back to Carolina. Ginn kicked off his second stint as a Panther with 10 touchdowns in 2015, doubling his previous career high. In addition, he posted 738 receiving yards. His yardage stayed pretty steady the following season, but his TDs dropped from 10 to 4. Ginn left for New Orleans after the 2016 season, where he would turn in one season akin to his previous one in Carolina, one shortened by injury, and one that looked a lot like Taylor Gabriel’s 2019.
Your author does not expect a great deal from Ginn. Production similar to Gabriel’s 2019 is probably the best the team can hope for, as Ginn has never been a hugely productive receiver and is now 35 years old to boot. Hopefully, Riley Ridley is ready for an expanded role on offense and Ginn isn’t needed for anything more than depth.
