What is the Philadelphia Eagles Direction???

By Dj James (@djames77)

When I think of the Philadelphia Eagles, I instantly think of the infamous Nick Young meme with the question marks. What are they doing? Where are they going? As a fan, you cannot understand the direction. I do not think the players understand the direction. First off, let us start with them giving Sam Bumford, I mean Bradford $36 million ($26 million guaranteed) on a 2-year deal. What has he proven or done in his time in the NFL? He has been mediocre at best when he is on the field. Then the front office mortgaged the franchise on number 2 overall pick Carson Wentz. They gave away a lot of their draft picks for him. I am okay with the pick if this is the future franchise quarterback, but what about now? Not to mention that they paid Chase Daniel to be a backup for Doug Pederson’s new system. So that is 3 quarterbacks getting paid if we are keeping count. Bradford had the nerve to holdout and tried to demand a trade because the team drafted Wentz. Pederson came out and said Bradford is the unquestioned starter. I guess that is why Bradford feels entitled because so many coaches and general managers have believed in him.

There has been rumblings and reports that Wentz is picking up the offensive system faster and the team wants an open quarterback competition. So what is the plan? Who will run the ball for the Eagles? Sproles is unhappy and not an every-down back and Matthews will not be able to stay on the field. The pass catchers aren’t any better. Jordan Matthews is supposed to be a number 1 but he struggled with drops last year and inconsistent play. Chris Givens, Josh Huff, Nelson Agholor, and Rueben Randle equals blah. The tight ends, Celek and Ertz, have to be more consistent.

The defense has fewer questions. They had to replace Chip Kelly’s toys in Maxwell and Kiko. The front seven will be solid again just as long as the offense keeps them on the field. The defensive backfield will be okay if Malcolm Jenkins stays healthy and Leodis Mckelvin can stay healthy and be productive. A lot of their success will depend on the offense and if whoever is starting at quarterback can get some quality starts in. We will see how Doug Pederson carries himself as the first year coach in the chaos in Philly. Winning solves all, and hopefully with a successful season, the direction will become clear.
