UA-59049186-1 Blackhawks 2, Panthers 1 (SO) - Good if it Goes

Blackhawks 2, Panthers 1 (SO)

Box score (Yahoo)

After getting outplayed for much of the first period, Richard Panik scored on a breakaway with a little over two minutes left in the period. The Blackhawks would even up the shots a bit in the second, though the Panthers seemed to get the better of the action. Neither team would find the back of the net in the period. The Panthers evened up the score 35 seconds into the third on a power play goal from Jaromir Jagr. After that, the period looked a lot like the seconds, though the Hawks ended up out-shooting Florida 11-10 in the period. The Panthers had a couple good chances near the end and got a power play after a Patrick Kane high-sticking penalty, but the Hawks were able to keep the game tied and send it to OT. The Hawks were able to kill off the rest of the penalty in OT and much of the period ended up being played 4-on-4. When we did get back to 3-on-3, the Hawks had a couple nice chances, but were unable to score. Crawford came up big a couple times and we went to a shootout for the extra point, which the Hawks won 2-0.

A few things

  • Jonathan Toews was still out. Word is that he’s got a back injury, but it’s not thought to be serious.
  • Artem Anisimov left the game after blocking a shot with an ankle injury that doesn’t appear serious.
  • The offense has been a bit sluggish lately, but I wouldn’t worry about it just yet. Toews is still out and everybody else is sort of slumping at the same time. Marian Hossa‘s cooled off. So had Panik prior to this game. The young guys are playing well, but just not scoring. The good news here is despite that, the team is finding ways to win.

My picks for 3 stars

★★★ Artemi Panarin, LW, CHI

★★ Richard Panik, W, CHI (1 G)

Corey Crawford, G, CHI (38 SV, 1 GA)
