UA-59049186-1 Kings 2, Blackhawks 1 (OT) - Good if it Goes

Kings 2, Blackhawks 1 (OT)

Box score (Yahoo)

The Blackhawks ended what may be the last circus trip with a clunker in Los Angeles in which they were out-shot 29-19. The problem was the greatest in the first, where the Hawks were out-shot 13-4 and the Kings were controlling the action. Fortunately for the Hawks, one of their four shots that period would go in – a Patrick Kane goal where he redirected a shot from Duncan Keith past Peter Budaj. The Kings tied the game early in the second on a goal by Alec Martinez. The rest of the way, shots were more even, but the Kings still got the better of the action. The Martinez goal would be the only one in the frame. Nobody scored in the third, where the Hawks actually ended up out-shooting the Kings. A Brent Seabrook delay of game penalty at the end of the period would carry over into OT, where the action never left the Kings’ end. Jeff Carter beat Scott Darling to give the Kings the extra point.

Takeaways

  • Jonathan Toews was still out. Faceoffs were an issue again. The Hawks won only 36%.
  • The circus trip could have gone better, but streaks happen in hockey. The Hawks were bound to cool down a bit after their 11-game point streak.

My picks for 3 stars

★★★ Alec Martinez, D, LAK (1 G)

★★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G)

★ Jeff Carter, C, LAK (1 G (GWG))
