Blackhawks 3, Ducks 2

Box score (Yahoo)

The Blackhawks played forty minutes of great hockey. The problem is – hockey’s a sixty-minute game. Fortunately, the forty great minutes were great enough to overcome the last not-so-great twenty. The Hawks opened the scoring just over eleven-and-a-half minutes into the first on a nice play by Artem Anisimov and Patrick Kane; Kane passed to Anisimov on the rush, who passed it back to Kane. Kane shot the puck, the shot got John Gibson down and Anisimov tapped in the loose puck. Kane would score one of his own on the power play in the second. A little over fifteen-and-a-half minutes into the second, Ryan Hartman made a very good play to make the lead 3-0 Blackhawks. Ten seconds later, the lead was cut to 3-1 on a shot from Nick Ritchie that really wasn’t Corey Crawford‘s finest moment. Momentum began to swing after that and in the third, the Ducks really got the better of the action. The Hawks were playing back on their heels. A little under nine minutes into the period, Jakob Silfverberg cut the Chicago lead to 1. Though Anaheim would get some good looks and a lot of zone time, the defense and Crawford would do a great job of holding that lead the rest of the way.

tshirt-ad

A few things

  • Jonathan Toews was out with an upper body injury. He’s officially day-to-day. Patrick Kane wore an A with Toews out. I would have put the letter on Marian Hossa, Niklas Hjalmarsson, or Brian Campbell instead, but whatever, man.
  • Tazer’s absence was really felt at the dot. The Hawks lost 49 faceoffs and won only 18. Toews doesn’t make up for all of that, but oof nonetheless. The only people above 50% at the dot were Ryan Hartman, who won his only draw, and Dennis Rasmussen, who went 3-for-4.

My picks for 3 stars

★★★ Jakob Silfverberg, RW, ANA (1 G)

★★ Ryan Hartman, W, CHI (1 G (GWG))

★  Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G, 1 A)
