Blackhawks 2, Rangers 1
- Updated: December 14, 2016
Despite getting out-shot, the Blackhawks played a pretty strong game and controlled the action for a good bit of it. After a pretty even but scoreless first, the Hawks got out-shot 16-7 in the second period. However, 2 of those 7 found the back of the net for the Hawks, while only one got past Scott Darling. First, Artemi Panarin set the table for Trevor van Riemsdyk, who put the puck past Antti Raanta. New York answered on a goal by Jesper Fast where the pass came from the base of the back side of the net and Fast played it off his body and batted the puck in. Late in the second, Artem Anisimov scored from the doorstep to put the Hawks up 2-1. The Rangers would have some great chances in the third, but good defense and great goaltending put the game away.
A few things
- Jonathan Toews and Brent Seabrook were both back in the Chicago lineup. Toews stepped back in his 1C role, flanked by Ryan Hartman and Marian Hossa, who have been playing pretty well together as of late.
- Scott Darling had another excellent game. Tyler Motte made plays on both sides of the ice. Duncan Keith played very well on defense.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Artem Anisimov, C, CHI (1 G (GWG), 1 A)
★★ Artemi Panarin, LW, CHI (2 A)
★ Scott Darling, G, CHI (33 SV, 1 GA)
