Blackhawks 3, Stars 2 – Recap

Box score (Yahoo)

tshirt-ad

The Blackhawks got out to just about the best start imaginable, as they scored 11 seconds into the game. After that things didn’t go quite as well. Corey Crawford got out to a rough start, giving up a couple goals in the first that he needed to stop. The Hawks’ offense would battle back, though, with Ryan Hartman finding the back of the net on a blast just under 3 minutes into the second to tie the game. Patrick Kane would give the Hawks the lead a few minutes later on a great play with the man advantage. The Stars had some serious chances in the third, especially late, with Marcus Kruger in the penalty box for a 4-minute high-sticking penalty. Crawford answered the bell every time, though, and the Hawks left Dallas with a 3-2 victory.

A few things

  • The third line of Tyler Motte, Marcus Kruger, and Ryan Hartman played very well. Motte was all over the ice again and displayed his ability to create offense. Kruger has shown more on the offensive end than he ever has. Hartman has been playing solid offense with a power game.
  • Andrew Desjardins was activated off of IR. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nick Schmaltz ends up in Rockford for a bit. He has a lot of potential, but needs time on the ice to develop.
  • After being a major culprit in the Hawks’ early exit from the playoffs last year, the defense continues to be quite good this year. This was another impressive outing from the blueliners.

My picks for 3 stars

★★★ Brett Ritchie, RW, DAL (1 G)

★★ Corey Crawford, G, CHI (31 SV, 2 GA)

★ Ryan Hartman, RW, CHI (1 G)
