Blackhawks 4, Avalanche 0 – Recap

Box score (Yahoo)

The Blackhawks got out to a rough start, with the Avalanche getting the better of the action. Luckily for the Hawks, Corey Crawford was on his game and kept things scoreless while the rest of the team got it together. Jonathan Toews got the scoring started with just over five-and-a-half to play in the first. Marian Hossa made it 2-0 just over half a minute later. The Hawks made the shots on goal a little more even in the second, though nobody scored. Just over a minute into the third, Hoss netted his second of the night. The Hawks would do a good job not letting Colorado totally control the play in the third, though there was a big difference in SOG. The Hawks would score again when Panarin found the back of the next shortly after leaving the penalty box. The Hawks would only get four SOG in the third, but two went in. None of Colorado’s 12 would go in, and Crow would complete his second shutout in three games.

A few things

  • The penalty kill was very good again. Not only did Colorado not score, they weren’t getting high-quality looks.
  • Crawford was particularly big in the first. The Avalanche was totally in control of the game and he made a few big saves to keep it scoreless.
  • While Crawford has been very good in the last three games, only allowing one goal, the defense needs to be recognized for that as well. They haven’t been hanging their goalie out to dry. They’ve done very well supporting him.

My picks for 3 stars:

★★★ Artemi Panarin, LW, CHI (1 G, 1 A)

★★ Marian Hossa, RW, CHI (2 G)

★ Corey Crawford, G, CHI (38 SV, SO)
