Blackhawks 4, Sabres 3 (OT)
- Updated: January 6, 2017
The Blackhawks came out firing, out-shooting the Sabres 20-6; however, after one, the game was tied at one. First, Marcus Foligno scored 7:21 in. Then, just under nine minutes later, Ryan Hartman beat Anders Nilsson while falling down. The Sabres would strike first in the second, too, when Kyle Okposo scored on a power play 18:10 in. Eighteen seconds later, Artem Anisimov tied the game. Jack Eichel gave the Sabres a lead 1:10 into the third on a power play, but this time, the equalizer would not come for quite some time, the GTG coming with just 2:04 left on the clock and Corey Crawford heading to the bench. It would be the same goal scorer, though. Nobody would score in the last couple minutes and we would go to overtime. In OT, Patrick Kane scored just under a minute in to give the Blackhawks the win over his hometown team.
A few things
- Marian Hossa returned to the ice and was very active in his return.
- Spencer Abbott was called up from Rockford and played on the top line with Jonathan Toews and Hossa. Tyler Motte was sent to Rockford. I think Motte deserved a look in a top 6 spot, but at least in Rockford, he can get some good minutes.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Jack Eichel, C, BUF (1 G)
★★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G (GWG), 2 A)
★ Artem Anisimov, C, CHI (2 G)
