Blackhawks 7, Flyers 4 – Recap

Box score (Yahoo)

The Blackhawks got out to another great start, scoring three goals in the first period and extending the lead to 4-0 just over five minutes into the second period on Marian Hossa’s 500th career goal. Late in the second, the Flyers scored on a power play and flipped the momentum in their favor. The Flyers added three more early in the third – the four goals coming in just under five-and-a-half minutes of game time – to tie the game. At that point, the Blackhawks battled back and regained control of the game. Anisimov gave the Hawks the lead on a tic-tac-toe play by the Shake An Bake line just past the midway point of the third. Panarin extended the lead to two with just under four to play on a great dish from Patrick Kane. Anisimov would add an empty-netter.

A few things

  • The penalty kill is still bad. Faceoffs on the PK have got to improve and the defense down low has to tighten up. They’re not handing teams one-timers anymore, so there’s that.
  • Something is off about Corey Crawford. He hasn’t been terrible, but he hasn’t been very good, either. The defense has been playing pretty well, so this seems like something to keep an eye on with Crawford.
  • Panarin made a couple not-so-great decisions with the puck, but got himself in good position on offense regularly.
  • The team is still idleing in the second and third periods. That’s got to tighten up – you can’t take your foot off the gas. Luckily, the team took the Flyers tying the game as a wake-up call.

My picks for 3 stars

★★★ Artemi Panarin, LW, CHI (2 G, 1 A)

★★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G, 3 A)

★ Artem Anisimov, C, CHI (2 G (GWG), 2 A)

Honorary ★ Marian Hossa, RW, CHI (1 G (500th of career))
