Blues 4, Blackhawks 1
- Updated: January 3, 2017
Michal Kempny found the back of the net just over a minute in and that would end up being the only Blackhawks goal. The Blues would end up getting the better of the action and would out-shoot the Hawks, though the Hawks would be able to keep them off the scoreboard for a while. Patrik Berglund scored 7:45 into the second to tie the game. That tie would hold for the rest of the period. The Hawks would look for a go-ahead goal in the third, but would struggle to find good looks. Then the Blues took over. Vladimir Tarasenko scored 12:05 into the third and 1:53 later, pushed the lead to two. The Blues would add an empty-netter and the Hawks would fall to 1-4 in outdoor games.
A few things
- Corey Crawford said that the ice was lousy, which really isn’t a surprise at all. It was in the 50s with rain in St. Louis for the game and there was talk that it would to be postponed. Unseasonably warm days can happen anywhere, but let’s minimize the potential for these outdoor games to get screwed up, shall we? Play them at night in cold weather cities only. Outdoor games are neat, but I have a problem with the spectacle becoming more important than the game itself.
- Marcus Kruger was put on IR and will miss a few weeks. Marian Hossa remains out.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Alexander Steen, LW, STL (1 G, 1 A)
★★ Patrik Berglund, C, STL (1 G (GWG))
★ Vladimir Tarasenko, RW, STL (2 G)
