Hurricanes 3, Blackhawks 2
- Updated: December 30, 2016
The Blackhawks got off to a slow start, but ended up striking first when Michal Kempny found the back of the net for the first time in the NHL a little over six-and-a-half minutes in. The lead would last less than two minutes, as Elias Lindholm and then Lee Stempniak scored off of rebounds 65 seconds apart. The Hawks would play a better second period, but that would not result in any goals. Fortunately, the Hurricanes did not score in the period, either. Jay McClement scored a little under three minutes into the third period to widen the Carolina lead to two. The Hawks would get one back 5:49 into the third off the stick of Vinnie Hinostroza. The team would get some nice chances, but were unable to find the equalizer, even after Scott Darling exited the ice in favor of an extra attacker.
A few things
- Vinnie Hinostroza played a good game, scoring and being rather active overall.
- The forecast for Monday’s Winter Classic calls for rain. If that happens, the game could be played Monday night or Tuesday night.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Lee Stempniak, RW, CAR (1 G)
★★ Michal Kempny, D, CHI (1 G, 1 A)
★ Jay McClement, C, CAR (1 G (GWG))
