Flames 3, Blackhawks 2 (SO) – Recap

Box score (Yahoo)

tshirt-ad

The Blackhawks fell behind 1-0 on yet another power play goal yielded and the Calgary score could have been a good bit larger if not for a few big saves by Corey Crawford. The Blackhawks would tie the game on a Patrick Kane goal the following period, though after that, they would yield another power play goal. The PK unit would later put together a couple nice kills, including one of the 4-minute variety. The Hawks played a very good third period, dictating the action for most of the last twenty of regulation. Brian Campbell would score his first goal of the year to tie the game. The Blackhawks would come up with some nice looks late, but Elliott would come up big for Calgary, and we would head to overtime. The Hawks controlled play for mos of the extra frame and would get a power play after Panarin was held, but they remained unable to get anything past Elliott and we would head to a shootout. Unfortunately for the Blackhawks, that pattern would continue in the shootout. Calgary would get the extra point in the seventh round of the shootout on a goal by Kris Versteeg.

A few things

  • The Hawks have got to quit taking stupid penalties, especially since they’re having so much trouble killing them off.
  • The Hawks would be wise to learn from what worked on the first successful penalty kill of the night and get more aggressive on the PK.
  • Start looking to just get pucks to the net.

My picks for 3 stars

★★★ Brian Elliott, G, CGY (31 SV, 2 GA)

★★ Brian Campbell, D, CHI (1 G)

★ Sean Monahan, C, CGY (1 G)
