UA-59049186-1 Lightning 5, Blackhawks 4 (OT) - Good if it Goes

Lightning 5, Blackhawks 4 (OT)

Box score (Yahoo)

Artemi Panarin got the Blackhawks on the board early. The Lightning would tie the game on the power play a while later. After that, the Hawks got the next three goals (Patrick Kane, Tomas Jurco, Richard Panik). Then in the second, momentum shifted in a big way and the Lightning came all the way back to tie it. The Hawks were on their heels for much of that period. The Hawks got back in gear for the third, though neither team would score and we would head to OT, where the Lightning would find the net with just 35 seconds remaining.

A few things

  • So about that second period: this is why Brent Seabrook cannot be traded this off-season. Absolutely cannot. We’ve seen sloppy defensive play at times this year and between guys getting older and the expansion draft, if you get rid of Seabs, your options beyond Duncan Keith and Niklas Hjalmarsson are Ville Pokka, Michal Kempny, Gustav Forsling, Erik Gustafsson, and a 38-year-old Brian Campbell or a 36-year-old Johnny Oduya if they’re on team-friendly deals.
  • It wasn’t just the defense, though; the forwards got rather sloppy themselves. This team misses Artem Anisimov. He’s a very nice defender for a forward and is a great complement for Kaner and the Bread Man. Tanner Kero plays a poor man’s version of his game and if Anisimov misses any time in the playoffs (Q says he’s on track to be back for the playoffs), Kero would be my pick to start at 2C. Nick Schmaltz has a ton of skill and the ceiling in the roof for him, but he doesn’t play as tough down low as Anisimov does.

My picks for 3 stars

★★★ Ondrej Palat, LW, TB (1 G, 1 A)

★★ Victor Hedman, D, TB (3 A)

Jonathan Drouin, LW, TB (2 G)
