Really lousy performance by the Blackhawks in this one. The offense wasn’t great, but to me, that was more a result of Minnesota doing a good job defensively than anything the Hawks were doing. Minnesota committed to shutting down the Hawks’ top scoring line and they were able to bottle up Patrick Kane. Kane did score, but the game was pretty much decided by that point.
The defense was awful. They gave up a lot of great looks to the Wild and the Wild took advantage of a few of them. Crawford wasn’t particularly good, but the 4 goals he gave up weren’t all his fault. What was discouraging about Crawford, though, was that he didn’t find that extra gear and keep his team in it. That’s what separates A+ goalies from A- goalies. Darling was a little better in relief, not that it really mattered at that point.
Yes, the refs were awful. No, that’s not why the Hawks lost.
My picks for 3 stars:
★★★ Nino Neiderreiter, RW, MIN (1 G, 1 A)
★★ Erik Haula, C, MIN (1 G, 2 A)
★ Jason Pominville, RW, MIN (1 G, 2 A)
