2024 Chicago Bears Season Preview: Intro

Dearest Mother,

The campaign was long and arduous, but finally, we have claimed victory. Captain Williams has been drafted to lead the regiment, our former captain reassigned to the 2nd Pennsylvania. While the men, as well as some outside observers wished to retain Captain Fields, it was clear that a change needed to be made. We faced great adversity as our opponent was highly motivated. Sergeant Williljax’s service was invaluable, doing battle with the fiercest members of the opposition on a daily basis. General Gabriel of the Cultfederate Army proved to be thoroughly incompetent. While he was vociferous in his role, his talk was shown to be nothing but bluster. You may remember General Gabriel as the man who helped to draft Jarron Gilbert into the regiment because he was so impressed that Private Gilbert could jump out of a swimming pool. Unsurprisingly, that skill proved worthless in battle and General Gabriel was removed from his command. He still draws a pension, though he wagered it multiple times against members of our regiment on the outcome of the war. I have no word as to whether any of our men who took that wager have been able to collect.

In the end, General Poles showed great courage making the decision despite a loud minority. He also brought in Major Waldron to help guide our new captain. Spirits are high among the men. Our training has gone very well and resulted in a perfect 4-0 record in the war games. We stand ready to embark on a new campaign. There will be struggles, there will be difficulties. But Colonel Eberflus appears revitalized and Captain Williams has inspired a confidence in the men not seen since the days of Captain Cutler, the nonplussed gunslinger, and Colonel Smith. Speaking of the old colonel, please send him my regards, for it was his leadership with the 2nd Texas that laid the groundwork for us to be in this position today.

Sincerely yours in football,
