WWE Battleground 2015 Review

Randy Orton defeated Sheamus

I’m not totally up on Raw, and can’t remember the last time I watched SmackDown, so I’m not totally sure, but the way the announcers were talking, it sounded like this match was set up by these two guys calling each other boring. Pot and kettle had a solid match, but solid’s about it. Orton’s hometown crowd was firmly behind him, at one point, chanting “RKO” to the cadence of “New Day sucks.” Orton won with an RKO out of nowhere. ★★¾

The Primetime Players defeated The New Day (Big E and Kofi Kingston) to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship

This was a Raw match. The best part of the match was Xavier Woods’ cheerleading on the outside. By the end of the match, I had lost count of which New Day member was the legal man. I think WWE did, too, as after Darren Young hit the Gut Check on Kofi, Kofi rolled out of the ring, and Cole said he thought that might have been the end of the match if Kofi had stayed in the ring. Shortly after that, Titus O’Neil hit Clash of the Titus on Big E for the win. ★★¼

Bray Wyatt defeated Roman Reigns

These guys beat the heck out of each other. Bray would get the heat on Reigns and Reigns would make a comeback. Bray won with Sister Abigail after Luke Harper pushed Reigns into the ring post while the referee was distracted. ★★★¼

Charlotte defeated Brie Bella and Sasha Banks in a Triple Threat match

This was a solid match that could have been a great match if Brie Bella wasn’t in it. Not just because Brie Bella sucks, but because the match had no flow to it when all three women were in the ring. The crowd loved the NXT women, chanting “NXT,” “Let’s go Charlotte, “ and “We want Becky.” Charlotte made Brie tap out to the Figure Eight. ★★¾

John Cena defeated Kevin Owens to retain the WWE United States Championship

I wasn’t sure what these guys could do that they hadn’t already done in their first two matches, but they put on another very good match. The match went back-and-forth and both guys got some huge moves in, but nothing was enough to win. Owens kicked out of an AA from the second rope, but ended up tapping out to the STF. Just when I thought they were starting to get it and were going to make Owens look great, they make him look like an idiot. If you were going to have Cena go over, which is stupid enough by itself, why not have Cena just pin Owens after the AA off the second rope? Having Owens kick out and then submit cheapens that move. And speaking of cheapening moves, enough with the springboard stunner. It looks stupid and Cena doesn’t win with it. In the last two matches with Owens, it was used to set up another move. What’s the point? It’s done just to do it. This is such a problem with WWE that’s it worthy of its own blog. For a while now, I’ve been considering cancelling the WWE Network and spending that money on New Japan World instead. Crap like this is why. ★★½

Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins fought to a no contest

Lesnar took Rollins to Suplex City, then Rollins made a brief comeback. Lesnar then hit more suplexes, then the F5. The ref was counting the pin when the Undertaker showed up and beat up Lesnar. He hit two Tombstone Piledrivers and the show ended with about fifteen minutes to spare. ★½

Overall: None of the matches were bad, but the show was just kinda “meh” and ended with a stupid John Cena win, a Miz promo, and a no contest. If SummerSlam sucks, I’m cancelling the WWE Network. I’m serious. We’ll find someone else to do these reviews. ★★¼
