Blackhawks 7, Capitals 1
- Updated: February 18, 2018
No, that’s not a typo. The Blackhawks not only won, but turned in their most dominant performance since opening night. The Hawks struck first on a goal by Jonathan Toews. The Capitals answered a little under four minutes later when Tom Wilson redirected a Matt Niskanen shot past Anton Forsberg. The Hawks took the lead back a couple minutes later on Brandon Saad‘s second goal in as many games. Nick Schmaltz put one in with two seconds left in the first period and while things were looking good at this point, it was still far too early to put this game in the W column. The second period was pretty quiet until Patrick Kane, Ryan Hartman, and Artem Anisimov all scored in the span of 2:07. Washington did not try much after that. Braden Holtby was finally replaced to start the third, but it didn’t matter. Philipp Grubauer would give up one of his own to Alex DeBrincat.
My picks for 3 stars
★★★ Brandon Saad, LW, CHI (1 G (GWG), 1 A)
★★ Patrick Kane, RW, CHI (1 G, 1 A)
★ Jonathan Toews, C, CHI (1 G, 2 A)
