Usain Bolt: Road to Rio- Competition is… Competitive
- Updated: June 5, 2016
One week before the highly anticipated matchup between countrymen Usain Bolt and Yohan “Beast” Blake, former World Record holder Asafa Powell got a tuneup at today’s American Track League meet. Powell ran a 10.01 in the 100m and looked “okay.” He won the sprint effortlessly as he led other competitive sprinters such as Jamaicans Michael Frater and Nickel Ashmede, as well as up-and-coming Cejhae Green from Antigua, who finished second.
Powell will face a strong field which includes the aforementioned Bolt and Blake, who has the fastest time of the year in the 100m (9.95), Commonwealth Games champion and fellow Jamaican Kemar Bailey-Cole, South African Askani Simbine, Ramon Gittens from Barbados, and fellow Jamaicans Ashmeade and Jason Livermore. This meet will be held on June 11, and will give a good indicator of how far along each competitor is heading into the Olympic trials.
