(Week of 1/31 – 2/6)

Hawks – Avalanche Recap

Hawks – Coyotes Recap

Hawks – Stars Recap

The Hawks went 3-0, all on the road, coming out of the All-Star break, defeating the Avalanche and Stars in regulation and the Coyotes in overtime.

Notes

Forwards: Toews was suspended against the Avalanche for sitting out the All-Star Game with an illness because the NHL is stupid, then scored 2 goals, including the GWG against the Coyotes. Hossa’s been playing well as of late. Shaw has been fine on the left side of that line, but Bowman really ought to look for a 1LW at the deadline. If he can pick one up, the Blackhawks will have two very dangerous lines and will be able to drop Shaw into the bottom six where he can help the 3rd or 4th-line be more productive. The Shake An Bake line were their usual great selves – Kane had the least good week out of the group, so that should tell you how good Anisimov and Panarin were.

Defensemen: Great, except against Arizona. Svedberg was called up to play for Rozsival in Colorado, Scuderi was a healthy scratch in all 3 games this past week. I still think a defenseman should be viewed as a luxury, not a necessity at the deadline. Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, TvR, and Gustaffson have all been at least good, Svedberg/Rozsival/Scuderi should be fine for the 6th spot if Bowman’s not able to pick someone up.

Goalies: Crawford was great, except, of course, against Arizona.

Blackhawks 3 stars of the week:

★★★ Artem Anisimov, C (1 G, 4 A)

★★ Jonathan Toews, C (2 G (1 GWG), 1 A)

★ Artemi Panarin, LW (1 G (1 GWG), 5 A)
