UA-59049186-1 Blackhawks 2, Avalanche 1 (OT) - Good if it Goes

Blackhawks 2, Avalanche 1 (OT)

Defense and goaltending came up big for the Blackhawks Tuesday night in a win over the Avalanche where the only Chicago goal in regulation (that wasn’t overturned) came just over five minutes into the game. Erik Gustafsson got the scoring started, and from there, it was a back-and-forth defensive battle. It would be just over 36 minutes before anyone scored. That time, it was Nathan MacKinnon for the Avalanche on a power play. Brandon Saad thought he had one late in the second period, but the officials decided that he had kicked the puck in, though he call on the ice was good goal and I don’t see how replay could have been conclusive. Very little happened in the third. Nobody scored and the two teams combined for 14 shots. Overtime had more action despite being 19:51  shorter. Jonathan Toews netted the game winner off a pass from Patrick Kane on a play set up by Duncan Keith.
