Blackhawks 3, Flames 2

tshirt-ad

The Blackhawks were in Calgary for night two of the circus trip. They would open up the scoring when Ryan Hartman cashed in on a great feed from Artem Anisimov 7:42 into the first. The lead would hold for the rest of the period, but Calgary would tie the game a little more than three-and-a-half minutes into the second. They would take a 2-1 lead a few minutes later. The Hawks battled, but were unable to get anything to go until Brent Seabrook scored on a power play just over fourteen-and-a-half into the period. After the tying goal, the action went back-and-forth. Both Corey Crawford and Chad Johnson made some big saves for their teams. The Hawks would claim the lead with just under two-and-a-half to play in regulation when Johnson blocked an Artemi Panarin shot upward and Hossa put it in the net once it came down. Calgary would get a couple nice looks after that and a power play for the final nine seconds, but they were unable to get anything past Crawford.

A few things

  • The penalty kill really stepped up in this one. The Hawks took a couple bad penalties, but the PK kept them from really hurting the team.
  • Tyler Motte could end up joining the team on the trip. If he does, I’d like to see him with Toews and Kane. Tonight, it was mostly Hartman in that spot, with Panarin subbed in when Q wanted to get aggressive.

My picks for three stars

★★★ Sean Monahan, C, CGY (1 G, 1 A)

★★ Ryan Hartman, W, CHI (1 G)

Marian Hossa, RW, CHI (1 G (GWG))
